General Washington’s Christian affiliations General Washington was an honest leader who believed in religious rights, and used his powers as general and president to enhance goodwill among Protestants, Catholics, and Jews. He did not separate his Christian principles from his public policies. He called on every man and officer to live and act like Christian soldiers shielding the treasured rights and autonomy of his country.
